electro-optical guidance

electro-optical guidance
The guidance making use of visible contrast patterns of a target or the surrounding area to effect seeker lock-on and terminal homing. TV guidance is one form of electro-optical guidance.
The target image is picked up by the TV camera in the missile. The image is displayed in the cockpit. The missile is guided automatically to the target once it is released after lock on. The TV head continuously compares target’s contrast with its surrounding and is guided in this way.
